On April 23, 2025, 35-year-old Christina Lynn Rentchler of St. Louis was shot and killed inside a residence in the O’Fallon neighborhood. Rentchler, who was in the second trimester of pregnancy with her fifth child, was located unresponsive on Farlin Avenue and pronounced dead at the scene; medical personnel also confirmed her unborn child did not survive.

The shooting occurred in the presence of Rentchler’s four young daughters, ages two to ten, and another child. According to the surviving woman who had been shot earlier in the incident, the suspect — identified as 28-year-old Vanier T. Jones — became angry and opened fire on her. After she played dead, she heard Jones ask the children where their mother was. Jones then found Rentchler and shot her multiple times, including fatal wounds to the back of the head.

Jones was arrested; prosecutors charged him with 17 offenses that include two counts of first-degree murder for Rentchler and her unborn child, multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child, armed criminal action, first-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was ordered held without bail. Does anyone have information about Rentchler, the residence on Farlin Avenue, or the children present that could help this case?
