Jaime Zamora Gamez, 21, was found shot to death inside his pickup truck on southbound Interstate 15 north of Cheyenne Avenue in North Las Vegas during the early morning hours of March 2, 2025. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports say he was a musician who played accordion in a band and was remembered by family and friends as kind-hearted; more than a hundred people attended a vigil and balloon release in his memory.

A 28-year-old man, Joseph De Luna, was in the passenger seat when police arrived and was taken into custody. De Luna was later charged with open murder with a deadly weapon; prosecutors described the killing as first-degree and said Gamez had been shot six times in the head. De Luna reportedly told investigators he shot Gamez because he became concerned for his welfare; his attorney said De Luna called 911, stayed at the scene, and told officers where the weapon was found. Bail was set at $300,000, a decision Gamez’s family called devastating.
