Officer Jason P. Roscow, 46, was killed in the line of duty in North Las Vegas on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. A 17-year veteran of the North Las Vegas Police Department who had served in Traffic and Patrol Operations, he was described as a U.S. Air Force veteran, a father of two young sons, and a mentor to colleagues.
Police responded that afternoon to 911 reports of a man walking near Lone Mountain and Camino Al Norte, armed and throwing rocks at vehicles. Officer Roscow was the first to locate 25-year-old Alexander Andre Mathis on Misty View Court. Body camera footage reportedly shows Mathis pointing a gun; officials say Mathis ignored commands and advanced toward the officer, prompting a gunfight. Roscow fired 16 rounds and was struck multiple times; Mathis fired five rounds. A second officer, Luis Messias Venez, fired one round. Both Roscow and Mathis were taken to University Medical Center and died there; the coroner attributed Roscow’s death to multiple gunshot wounds and Mathis’s to a single gunshot wound.
