Wilfredo Freddy Vasquez Jr, 36, was shot and killed on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 23, 2025, near 1807 Van Vranken Avenue in Schenectady, New York. First responders arrived shortly before 3:25 p.m. and found him wounded; he was taken to Ellis Hospital and later died of his injuries. Reports say an argument — the details of which have not been disclosed — escalated and Vasquez was shot in the torso.
Vasquez was remembered by family as a father who loved dance, fashion, and cooking, and who often prepared meals for people experiencing homelessness. He was born and raised in the Bronx and is survived by his children, his partner, and an extended family. Authorities arrested a 19-year-old suspect, Cecil A. Toland, within a day and charged him with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon; police said the shooting occurred in front of the children of Vasquez’s girlfriend.
Does anyone have information about what led to the argument that afternoon or witnessed activity around Van Vranken Avenue that day?
