Gideon C. Griffin Jr., 45, was found dead in his Walker Landing Apartments unit in Elizabeth City after officers responded to a reported shooting at the complex around 11:30 p.m. on May 9, 2025. Police described the case as a homicide and identified 45-year-old Joseph Simmons, formerly of Elizabeth City, as a person of interest. Authorities are actively searching for Simmons and have asked anyone with information to contact the Elizabeth City Police Department.
