Aubreeyonna Muex, age four, died of a gunshot wound after being found at a home in the 10500 block of Castle Drive in St. Louis County on January 27, 2025. Emergency services took her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Police say the child’s 56-year-old grandmother, Detrice Young, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Investigators report Young was the sole owner of the firearm in the house, habitually slept with it under her pillow, and on the day of the incident the gun was reportedly left unsecured. Two other adults and two children, ages 2 and 11, were in the home and were awakened by the sound of a gunshot.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney charged Young with Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating a Substantial Risk and Endangering the Welfare of a Child First Degree Resulting in Death; she is being held on $50,000 bond. The Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is continuing its investigation.
If anyone was at the Castle Drive residence that afternoon or has information about the events leading to Aubreeyonna’s death, please come forward.
