Brandon Allen Chase, 35, of Baker City, Oregon, was fatally shot and found in the driver’s seat of his vehicle on March 20, 2025. He was taken to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City and later flown to a regional hospital, where he died. The Ada County Coroner ruled his death a homicide.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots near Ohio Street and seeing a dark-colored vehicle speed away. Surveillance from a nearby gas station showed a black Cadillac driving north on Highway 7 and turning onto Indiana Avenue just before Chase’s pickup followed. Two empty 9mm cartridges were recovered in the middle of Ohio Street.

On March 24, 2025, 23-year-old Caleb James Mansuetti of Baker City was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, pointing a firearm at another person, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. A grand jury later returned a six-count indictment; a probable cause preliminary hearing was set for March 31, 2025, and Mansuetti’s next scheduled court appearance was a plea hearing on June 11, 2025. Mansuetti previously had a July 2021 arrest for allegedly brandishing a 9mm handgun during a road rage incident.
