Robert Gibbs, a 62-year-old Black man, was found fatally shot inside his Ponca City home on South Lake Street on the evening of March 30, 2025. Responding officers and emergency personnel discovered Gibbs unresponsive with a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial report came from someone who said they heard gunshots nearby and observed the man bleeding from the ear.

The Ponca City Police Department is treating the death as a homicide and describes the investigation as active and ongoing. No suspects have been publicly identified and there have been no arrests. Detectives are asking anyone with information, however small, to contact the department or submit tips through the local Crime Stoppers program.
