An 18-year-old student, Trasean White of Wadmalaw Island, was shot and killed on Monday, May 12, 2025, on Bowen Pier Drive in Hanahan, South Carolina. Berkeley County Coroner’s Office personnel were called about 9 p.m. and found White deceased. He was a senior at James Island Charter High School, due to graduate.

Deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office initially responded; one individual was detained at the scene. The Hanahan Police Department took over the investigation. Police later said the incident occurred during an alleged robbery attempt and that the person who fired did so in self-defense. That person, also 18, was arrested but ultimately not charged after investigators concluded the shooting was justified and closed the case.

Are there witnesses or additional details from that night that anyone in the area can share?
