Shamod Tylond Harris, 23, was found dead inside a home on Rocky Hill Lane in Church Hill, Hawkins County, Tennessee, after deputies responded to a reported shooting at about 5:40 a.m. on May 7, 2025. Harris had recently moved to the area from Durham, North Carolina, to live with his girlfriend; his family described him as full of life, love, and laughter.He was discovered deceased inside the residence and investigators treated the case as a homicide.

The preliminary inquiry tied the shooting to an escalating dispute involving a mutual female acquaintance; Harris’s mother said he was shot while sleeping and named the alleged shooter as the girlfriend’s ex-partner. Within a day, authorities arrested 31-year-old Daquion Carter and charged him with First Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; a person of interest located at the scene received medical treatment before formal charging.
