John Johnny J. Rabbitz Jr., 44, of Sugarloaf Township, Pennsylvania, was shot and killed at his home on Merry L. Drive on the evening of January 21, 2025. He was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton; the Luzerne County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. Rabbitz Jr. had lived in Sugarloaf for 24 years after moving from Hazleton and served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Unit Supply since September 2009. He is remembered for motorcycle riding, ice hockey, and being devoted to his three daughters.

Authorities say Rabbitz Jr. called 911 about 5:20 p.m., reporting he had been shot multiple times after answering a knock at his door and identifying his assailant as Hunter Snyder, saying the attack was over a girl. Investigators recovered texts and surveillance footage showing Snyder visiting a woman Rabbitz Jr. had been dating and Snyder’s vehicle near Rabbitz Jr.’s home. Snyder, a former Pennsylvania State Trooper who had been assigned to Troop F until May 2023, was charged with homicide and is in custody at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

Does anyone have information about sightings in the Merry L. Drive area or the Sunbury residence around January 21?
