Colencia Davidson, a 39-year-old African American woman, was shot and killed on May 4, 2025, outside her home on Upper Lake Drive in Atascocita, Texas. She had just returned from an evening with friends when she was ambushed near the garage and pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds; the medical examiner later confirmed twelve gunshot wounds. Surveillance footage reportedly shows her running across the yard while being pursued and shot at, and the audio captures multiple gunshots.

Investigators identified the suspect as 44-year-old Thomas Sonnier, described as Davidson’s ex‑partner and the father of her children. Sonnier was arrested and charged with murder, booked into the Harris County Jail on a $1 million bond, and was combative and uncooperative during his court appearance; he is scheduled to return to court in June. Davidson’s children were inside the home during the shooting and were found unharmed, and several adult friends who were outside provided statements.

Davidson worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Authorities called attention to the couple’s reportedly tumultuous and physically abusive relationship and urged anyone with information to come forward. If anyone knew Colencia, her routines, or saw activity around Upper Lake Drive that night, please share what is known with investigators.
