The Ponds subdivision in Summerville, South Carolina, was rocked by gunfire the night of February 25, 2025. Seventeen-year-old Deangelo M. Dover Jr., a Summerville High School student, was found fatally shot in the middle of Oak View Way after neighbors reported hearing about five shots from what sounded like two different weapons. Deputies discovered a firearm near him and the Dorchester County coroner pronounced him dead at the scene at 10:45 p.m.; an autopsy was scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina.
The shooting prompted community concern about gun safety and responsibility as investigators worked to reconstruct the events that led to the teenager’s death. The motives and the nature of any relationships between Dover and other persons involved had not been disclosed. Anyone with information about what happened on Oak View Way that night is asked to come forward.
