Johnathan Alexander Williams, a 19-year-old African American man, was found fatally shot in the yard of a home on John Ralph Lane in Cheraw, South Carolina, on the evening of February 16, 2025. His body showed multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. A resident discovered him at about 10:11 p.m., nearly three hours after neighbors reported hearing a volley of gunshots around 7:30 p.m.

Investigators recovered 24 spent shell casings at the scene and noted five bullet holes in the residence. A witness reported seeing a white Toyota Camry leave the driveway around the time the shots were fired. The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division joined the county coroner’s office in the investigation.

Within days, three people known to Williams were arrested. Christopher Shane Hatcher Jr., 20, was charged with murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Charles Wayne Williams III, 19, and 17-year-old Gage James Lee Starling were charged with accessory before and after the fact; Starling was to be charged as an adult. A bond hearing was scheduled as the legal process began and the motive remained under investigation.

Did anyone in Cheraw have information about the white Toyota Camry or the events of that evening?
