A fatal shooting at a house party in West Jordan ended the life of 19-year-old Hugo Lucero Perez in the early morning hours of March 9, 2025. Officers found Perez with a gunshot wound to the chest near 7900 South and 6400 West; he was taken to a hospital and died shortly after arrival. Surveillance video from nearby residences captured an individual firing 11 shots at Perez and others who were standing by a vehicle, and investigators gathered witness statements and physical evidence at the scene.

Police arrested 19-year-old Tayden Bentley Huntsman on March 13, 2025, charging him with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, tampering with a witness, and multiple counts of illegal discharge of a firearm. A police affidavit says a witness reported Huntsman admitted the shooting and Huntsman allegedly told detectives I shot him. Authorities later arrested 18-year-old Vincent Caleb Vasquez on April 19, 2025, on obstruction of justice allegations for reportedly advising Huntsman to dispose of the firearm and attempting to help him leave the state. Anyone who was at the party or has information about the shooting is asked to come forward.
