On the morning of Thursday, January 23, 2025, 46-year-old Bruce Lamont Bell was shot inside an apartment at the Tanglewood Apartments on Marchbanks Avenue in Anderson, South Carolina. Anderson County 911 received a distress call shortly before 9:00 a.m.; officers found Bell with multiple gunshot wounds and emergency crews transported him to AnMed Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 9:40 a.m. The Anderson County Coroner ruled the manner of death homicide due to the gunshot wounds.
Investigators described the shooting as possibly arising from a domestic altercation inside the apartment that escalated into gunfire. Police detained a 17-year-old juvenile for questioning soon after the incident; as of the initial reports no formal charges had been announced and detectives continued to investigate. Bell was a lifelong resident of the area, the son of Joe Bruce Craft and Annie G. Bell Craft, and is survived by nine children and fourteen grandchildren. A funeral service was scheduled at Marvin Mattison Memorial Chapel.
