ZayKeese Amarius Brown, 25, was shot and killed inside a home in the 2000 block of Bedford Avenue in Lynchburg on May 6, 2025. Officers responding to a 6:40 p.m. call found several people attempting to render aid for a chest wound believed to be from a gunshot; Brown was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and pronounced dead.
In the days after the killing, police described the violence as isolated while they followed leads. By May 12 detectives released security footage of a person they hoped the public could identify. Brown’s family and friends gathered at Rivermont Baptist Church on May 14 to remember him as warm and smiling. Two months later a 17-year-old was arrested in Campbell County and charged in juvenile court with second-degree murder, shooting in the commission of a murder, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and burglary with intent to commit murder, rape, robbery, or arson; the minor’s name was not released.
Reporting tied the shooting to a close-range, chaotic confrontation, not a random encounter. Investigators continued to seek a second suspect and executed a search warrant at a Twin Oak Drive address for Terrell O’Brian Moss, 25, seeking him on a conspiracy to commit robbery charge; days later authorities said Moss turned himself in and was taken into custody. If anyone knew Brown, his movements that night, or the people in that house, please share what you know.
