Nicolas A. Mejia, a 16-year-old Hispanic male from Ashburn, Virginia, was shot and killed on the evening of April 12, 2025, in the Broadlands neighborhood. What began as a planned meeting is reported to have escalated into a fatal encounter that authorities believe was tied to a drug-related transaction. After being wounded on Hillmont Terrace, Nicolas tried to flee and was later found unresponsive in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked outside the Harris Teeter on Southern Walk Plaza. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene; the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office initially received a report of a stabbing but later confirmed the cause of death was a shooting.

Two arrests followed quickly. Nineteen-year-old Fadlalla Mohamed of Ashburn was taken into custody the day after the shooting and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony; he was reportedly out on a $1,000 unsecured bond for an unrelated offense at the time.

Family members described Nicolas as vibrant, caring, and devoted to his relatives and friends, with aspirations to support his family; his father was undergoing cancer treatment at the time. A community vigil was held and a GoFundMe campaign was started to help with funeral expenses. Does anyone have information about Nicolas’s movements that evening or about the meeting on Hillmont Terrace?
