A wellness check in a Spotsylvania neighborhood ended with a double homicide. On January 25, 2025, a friend entered the Heatherwood Drive home of 59-year-old Kimberly Newcomb after not hearing from her and found her deceased. Deputies arriving found a second body in the residence, 61-year-old Charles Childress; detectives later learned the two had been living together.
The Criminal Investigation Division and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined both Newcomb and Childress died of multiple gunshot wounds. The scene prompted an extensive investigation into how the two were killed.
On March 7, 2025, authorities arrested 61-year-old Danny Allen Hale Sr., of Opelika, Alabama, identified as Newcomb’s brother, and charged him with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony; he was held without bond. The investigation is continuing.
If anyone knew Kimberly Newcomb or Charles Childress or has information about their deaths, please share what you know.
