On February 12, 2025, officers responded to a shooting on Gerry Drive in the Montego Bay subdivision of Hood County, Texas, and found 20-year-old Billy Sheffield IV with gunshot injuries. Sheffield was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Texas Rangers and the Hood County Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation.

Investigators identified multiple suspects and charged four individuals with capital murder: Angel Morales, 18; Alex Cisneros, 17; Gabriel Ocanas, 20; and an unnamed 16-year-old juvenile. Morales was arrested in Tarrant County on February 15, 2025; Cisneros, Ocanas and the juvenile had already been taken into custody. Three other people were arrested on charges of hindering the apprehension of a fugitive.
