On February 12, 2025, Ricky Flores Mier, 38, was found dead from gunshot wounds inside a white GMC Yukon at 14th and Goliad in Big Spring, Texas. A 34-year-old Hispanic man who had also been shot in the same vehicle survived and was treated at Scenic Mountain Medical Center and then flown to UMC Lubbock; police said he was expected to recover.

Witnesses reported shots coming from a small black car. Detectives tracked a vehicle matching that description to the 600 block of E. 17th Street, executed a search warrant at a related residence, and arrested 39-year-old Tony Magallanes. Authorities charged Magallanes with the murder of Ricky Flores Mier and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators described the confrontation as stemming from a road rage altercation and said the people involved were not previously acquainted.

Ricky Flores Mier was a lifelong Big Spring resident who worked at the Boys & Girls Club and is survived by children, siblings and extended family. Does anyone have information about the shooting, or recall seeing a small black car in the area that evening?
