On February 7, 2025, 46-year-old Ramiel Sanders was fatally shot at the Cedar Creek Apartments on Denton Street in Abilene, Texas. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Sanders on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds; he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

Abilene police identified 20-year-old Ivonyai Lamb as the primary suspect and obtained an arrest warrant, believing he was in either Abilene or the Killeen area. Months later, Lamb was arrested in Wilmington, North Carolina, in an operation involving the U.S. Marshals Service and the New Hanover County SWAT team; he was taken into custody to be extradited to Abilene to face a murder charge, a first-degree felony.

Investigators also arrested Lamb’s sister, Keighvoucia Lamb, on unrelated charges that included three counts of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor false report; she was located in Abilene on April 29, 2025, and held in the Taylor County Jail on bond totaling $272,000. Authorities credited public tips and interagency cooperation in the investigation.
