Luis Banos Norberto, 27, of Baytown, Texas, was shot in the face and killed inside his apartment at the Crosby Green complex on January 14, 2025. Investigators say his fiancé, 31-year-old Ty Vaughn, was later arrested and charged with murder after authorities concluded the scene had been staged to resemble a suicide.

According to court documents, Vaughn told police he left after an argument and returned to find Norberto dead, but surveillance footage places Vaughn entering the apartment at 4:05 a.m., shortly before neighbors reported a gunshot. At 4:27 a.m. Vaughn sent a text to Norberto, who was already deceased; he did not call 911 until 5:38 a.m. Norberto’s body was found on a bed with a lever-action rifle propped against his arm and a torn photo of the two nearby. Investigators also cite inconsistencies in Vaughn’s statements and a phone search showing he had Googled Can I kill an illegal human?.

Norberto, originally from Guerrero, Mexico, was remembered by family and his Baytown community for his art, volunteer work and compassionate nature.

Did anyone in Baytown know Luis or have information about his last hours that could help the investigation?
