Clifford Roy Motton, 54, of Beaumont, Texas, was shot in the 3900 block of Helena Street just before 7:30 p.m. on January 1, 2025. He was found with gunshot wounds, taken to a local hospital, and later died of his injuries. Law enforcement opened a homicide investigation into his death.

On January 8, 2025, Beaumont police arrested 18-year-old Jason Murchison Jr.; he remains in custody and faces multiple charges including murder, three counts of deadly conduct involving the discharge of a firearm, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Other arrests followed: an 18-year-old Eddie Davis was taken into custody January 10 on an unrelated deadly-conduct warrant, and between January 15 and 22 police arrested four juveniles — ages 24, 16, 17 and another 24-year-old — who were charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the case.

Motton’s funeral was scheduled for January 25 at Calvary Mortuary Chapel with burial at Kirby Cemetery. He is survived by his sister Cecelia Rocamore, aunts and other relatives. Does anyone who was in the Helena Street area that evening have information that could help investigators?
