Roxann Hope Reyes was a 3-year-old Hispanic girl who was abducted from Garland, Texas, on November 3, 1987. An eyewitness account describes Roxann and her sister Sara (known as Saralita or Lita) leaving their apartment to take flowers to their sick babysitter across a field. The witness says a van resembling an ice cream truck pulled into the alley, stopped near the girls, and someone grabbed Roxann and pulled her into the vehicle while Sara escaped.
Skeletal remains found on May 19, 1988, in a remote area near Murphy, Texas, were identified as Roxann’s. Investigators concluded she had been murdered and later examined links between her killing and other 1980s abductions and sexual assaults of young girls in the Dallas area. David Elliott Penton, who was later arrested in Ohio and prosecuted for other child killings, became the focus of renewed attention. By 2003 Penton was indicted in Roxann’s death; he pleaded guilty on January 6, 2005, and received life sentences under a plea agreement.
Does anyone have additional memories of the Garland neighborhood or saw a van like the one described on November 3, 1987?
