Rudolph Broussard, 37, was shot and killed in Opa-locka, Florida, on October 31, 1986. His killing occurred during a violent confrontation tied to rising tensions between local tenants and members of a religious group referred to as the Yahwehs or the Nation of Yahweh. Broussard and 28-year-old Anthony Brown had publicly opposed the group’s recent purchase of a five-building apartment complex and refused to vacate despite pressure; Broussard had even appeared on television about the dispute and Brown had been quoted in newspapers.

Witnesses said four armed men arrived in two vehicles in the early hours, stormed the apartment the two men shared, and that Broussard was shot execution-style while on his knees, struck twice in the head; Brown was also fatally shot. Police shortly afterward apprehended a suspect identified as 33-year-old Neariah Israel, also known as Robert Rozier, found hiding in nearby bushes and charged with first-degree murder. Rozier later admitted to multiple killings carried out on behalf of the Yahweh group and cooperated with prosecutors, which prompted wider investigations into the organization and its alleged violent acts. The remaining families at the complex were evacuated and sheltered after the murders.

Are there readers who remember the Opa-locka community at that time or who have information about the apartment complex and the events leading up to these killings?
