Roger Edward Dickerson was an 18-year-old Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps when he was killed while on liberty from Camp Pendleton. Born August 4, 1955, in Corvallis and raised largely in Albany, Oregon, he had enlisted in 1972 and was serving in a reconnaissance battalion of the First Marine Division.

Dickerson disappeared June 21, 1974. His nude body was found June 23 near the ocean in South Laguna, about 15 feet down a cliff at the end of a dead-end road. Authorities determined he had been strangled; identity was not confirmed until July 5, 1974. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported no arrests or suspects and said the motive remained unclear.

His funeral was held in Albany and he was buried at Willamette Memorial Park. If anyone knew Roger, saw him in Laguna Beach on June 21–23, 1974, or has information about his death, please come forward.
