A violent roadside shooting on the morning of August 30, 2025, ended the life of 20-year-old Keonna Honanie. Traveling from Phoenix toward northeastern Arizona, Keonna was a passenger in a white Honda Pilot with four other occupants, including a one-year-old child seated next to her, when an argument with her 22-year-old boyfriend, Donald Nash, allegedly escalated and Nash produced a handgun and shot her in the head. The SUV was on the Beeline Highway when the shooting happened; the driver pulled into a Denny’s parking lot and multiple 911 calls came in just before 10 a.m. First responders attempted lifesaving measures but Keonna was pronounced dead at Banner Payson Medical Center.
Nash, also from Phoenix, was detained at the scene by Payson police and booked into the Gila County Jail on second-degree murder, three counts of felony endangerment and one count of resisting arrest. Authorities described the killing as a domestic violence shooting and reported the couple had a history of domestic violence, but no motive has been specified. Keonna, a Hopi woman who grew up in the Village of Tewa and went by Pov-ee, was remembered by family as kind, strong and connected to her culture; she had graduated high school two years earlier.
If anyone witnessed the shooting on the Beeline Highway, saw the Honda Pilot before or after the incident, or has information about this case, please share what is known with investigators.
