On July 6, 2025, 33-year-old Gumero Olvera Castro was shot during a domestic dispute in the early hours on Willow Bend Lane in Bessemer, Alabama. The next morning, July 7, Martinez was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol while attempting to cross into Mexico. Jefferson County detectives coordinated with federal and Texas authorities to arrange his return to Alabama to face the charge.
