Dakota Seth Hallmark, 32, of Gadsden, Alabama, was found fatally shot inside his vehicle at the intersection of South 5th Street and Chestnut Street in the early morning hours of June 22, 2025. Police discovered him at the scene and later identified the case as a homicide.

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Chrisshod Wallace the same day and charged him with murder and first-degree robbery. Investigators say the incident arose during an attempted robbery in which Wallace allegedly tried to steal a necklace from Hallmark. Wallace has admitted possessing stolen items but denies firing the shot that killed Hallmark. Surveillance footage shown at a preliminary hearing reportedly captured two vehicles leaving the scene, and police believe a second person — alleged to be the gunman — remains at large.
