Roy Lamar Curry Jr, 42, was shot multiple times and killed at his workplace, a car detailing shop on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on June 20, 2025. Attempts to save him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tuscaloosa Police and the Violent Crimes Unit opened an immediate investigation.
Witnesses at the shop identified the shooter as a former employee, 22-year-old Tyshawn Laquan Thompson. Those present said Thompson returned to the business and opened fire for reasons that remain unclear. Thompson fled in a stolen vehicle and was located about six hours later after being tracked west through Mississippi.
A coordinated effort with the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Mississippi authorities led to Thompson’s arrest near Batesville, Mississippi, and the recovered vehicle was processed by Tuscaloosa investigators in Panola County. Thompson is being held in Mississippi pending extradition to face a murder charge in Tuscaloosa.
