A night out between brothers ended in a fatal shooting. Jason Pine, 48, was shot and killed in Surprise, Arizona, on the night of June 20, 2025 after a confrontation with his younger brother. The two had been drinking at a concert in Tempe earlier that evening and were ejected after police say Jason allegedly groped women. The dispute continued at an apartment in the Avilla Meadows complex near Waddell and Reems roads.
According to police, the argument escalated inside the unit; Jason’s 45-year-old brother, Justin Pine, went to his bedroom, retrieved a rifle, and shot Jason. Emergency crews found Jason gravely wounded and he died at the scene. Justin made the 911 call and was taken into custody that night; he was booked on charges including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and disorderly conduct. Justin reportedly told police he feared his brother was going to kill him and has documented medical issues including stage three kidney disease and major depressive disorder. Authorities have said no other suspects are being sought.
If anyone who knew Jason or the Pine family has information about the events that night, please come forward.
