Markesse W. Owens, 41, a Black man from Riverbank, California, was killed on September 19, 2025, after deputies responded to a late-afternoon report of a shooting in the 6100 block of Claus Road. Deputies found Owens with gunshot wounds and began lifesaving efforts; he was pronounced dead at the scene and the residence was secured as a crime scene. Two juveniles who had been inside the home were unharmed and removed before detectives began reconstructing the events that led to the shooting—who had been present, what was said, and how the confrontation escalated to gunfire.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and within days publicly identified a suspect, 19-year-old Keyante Aaron Reed. Authorities said a murder warrant had been issued for Reed and warned he should be considered armed and dangerous, asking the public to call 911 rather than approach if he was seen. Public updates in the days after the killing emphasized locating Reed and collecting tips; no arrest or court proceeding was reported at that time.

If anyone has information about who was at the home that afternoon or saw Keyante Aaron Reed around September 19, where he might have gone afterward, please contact the assigned detective or submit a tip through Crime Stoppers.
