On the morning of Sunday, September 14, 2025, 20-year-old Hispanic Salvador De Jesus Castillo-Hernandez of Concord was found lying along the 2600 block of Monticello Road, the rural stretch of State Route 121 east of Napa. A passerby reported a man who wasn’t moving and with blood on his clothing; deputies pronounced Salvador Castillo-Hernandez dead at the scene. Detectives later confirmed he had been shot multiple times and the roadway was closed for hours while investigators searched the shoulder and adjacent ditch for evidence.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation and asked the public for tips about vehicles stopped on Monticello Road that morning or anyone who heard gunfire in the Wooden Valley area. By the next day, 22-year-old Bryan Alexis De Paz Gomez of Vallejo was arrested in Napa and booked on suspicion of murder; prosecutors later filed a murder charge with special firearm-related allegations. Court records show Bryan Gomez, also known as Bryon Alexis Depaz-Gomez, pleaded not guilty and denied the special allegations and remained in custody without bail as the case proceeded.
The shooting has drawn attention because of the victim’s youth and the daylight, roadside location; investigators were working to reconstruct the final moments and establish a motive. If anyone saw activity on Monticello Road that morning or has information about the encounter, please share what was seen.
