Shantay Butts, 42, was shot to death late on July 11, 2025, inside a residential trailer off the 100 block of State Road 715 in Belle Glade, Florida. Deputies arrived about 11:47 p.m. after a juvenile called 911 saying his stepfather had broken a window and forced his way in; inside, Butts was found unresponsive on a bed and pronounced dead minutes before midnight. A man later identified as her boyfriend was also found with a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he survived.

One child told deputies he saw Williams straddling Butts and heard her gasping for air; a niece said Williams had threatened to kill her before. Deputies encountered a man matching the description outside; he surrendered in the street without incident. Inside the trailer detectives recovered a handgun magazine and multiple shell casings while six children and two other adults were found elsewhere in the residence.

Sheriff’s Office records and contemporaneous reports link Williams to prior domestic incidents, an arrest and an active felony warrant the week before the killing; he was also suspected of stealing a gun from Butts’s vehicle earlier in July and is barred from possessing firearms because of prior felony convictions.
