Azareel J. Martinez, 26, was shot and killed in his Davenport, Florida, home on the evening of May 21, 2025. The confrontation began when his 9-year-old brother was disciplined for secretly playing Fortnite and produced a 9mm handgun taken from a nightstand drawer. The child’s parents struggled over the weapon until 43-year-old Kelly Agar Garcia took control of it. When Martinez demanded to know why Garcia was armed, words escalated and Garcia opened fire, striking Martinez multiple times in the chest and abdomen. Additional shots were fired as the encounter moved into a hallway; at least one wound entered Martinez’s back. Paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Police described an extensive homicide scene in the Citrus Landing community around 7:10 p.m., collected ballistics and other evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Investigators said the ease of the child’s access to the gun and the unsecured drawer were central to how the incident unfolded. By the next day, Garcia was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and unlawful storage of a firearm; he was booked into the Polk County Jail. If anyone in Davenport or Brownsville knew Azareel or has information about that night, please come forward.
