On the early morning of Saturday, July 19, 2025, 16-year-old Kardenai Anthony Hollis of Fort Wayne was found unresponsive from gunshot wounds in the 1800 block of River Run Trail around 3:08 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead; the Allen County Coroner’s Office ruled the manner of death a homicide and listed gunshot wounds as the cause.

Investigators initially sought help identifying the victim and later confirmed his name. Police say detectives quickly developed a suspect and, within five days, arrested 19-year-old Jamoni Lee Burton, who reportedly lived in the same apartment complex, on a murder charge on July 24, 2025. Court records describe possible motive tied to an alleged robbery and include statements that Burton had been seen with guns and had hinted he might end up in jail. Video from a doorbell camera and preliminary forensic testing matching shell casings to a weapon recovered under Burton’s bed are noted in the court papers.
