Franklin Stephen Bingham, 39, was fatally shot late morning on July 1, 2025, on Northport Loop West in Fremont, California. Multiple 9-1-1 calls about gunfire came in around 10:37 a.m.; officers found Bingham with a gunshot wound and he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The Alameda County Coroner recorded a gunshot wound to the shoulder as the cause of death.

Detectives quickly focused on a 56-year-old man who remained near the scene and who knew Bingham. Police say the two met that morning near the man’s recreational vehicle, an argument erupted, and the man—identified by authorities as Greg White—told detectives he fired in self-defense, alleging Bingham tried to carjack him while advancing with a long, sharpened copper pipe. Investigators recovered a rifle and ammunition from the RV, interviewed witnesses and the detained man, and arrested him on suspicion of murder while the case was prepared for prosecutorial review. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Did anyone in the Fremont area know Franklin Bingham or witness the confrontation that morning?
