On June 30, 2025, 38-year-old Alberto Garcia Hernandez Duran of Wasco was found inside his vehicle on the right shoulder of southbound Interstate 5, just south of Highway 46 near Lost Hills. He had been shot while driving on I-5, managed to pull over and call 911, but died en route to the hospital. The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified him as 38-year-old Alberto Garcia Hernandez Duran.

Court records say Duran told an officer the shooter was in a 1990s white Ford F-150 with a motorcycle in the bed. Surveillance video reportedly showed a similarly described truck lying in wait and following his car before gunfire. Investigators recovered a handgun and arrested 28-year-old Juan Humberto Loza of Shafter the next day; Loza was booked on felony charges including murder and detectives say evidence indicated he fired several shots at the victim and his vehicle.

Court filings referenced a possible motive: the I-5 killing may have been retaliation for a June 29 shooting in Wasco that left 34-year-old Marissa Ramirez-Tellez dead. The case is being treated as a homicide with an arrest. Does anyone have information about Duran’s movements on June 30 or about the white Ford F-150 seen near I-5 that morning?
