A pre-dawn August encounter near the Monterey community in Owen County, Kentucky, ended with 26-year-old Jamar Douglas of Louisville mortally wounded. Kentucky State Police responded to a call around 2:00 a.m. and found Douglas unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds; he was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m. the following day.
Investigators identified 52-year-old Gary Bullion of Ghent as the person who shot Douglas. Bullion called 911 just before 2:30 a.m., saying he had met Douglas online, picked him up, brought him to his Old Frankfort Pike residence, and that an argument led to Douglas striking him. Bullion told the dispatcher he fired a warning shot and then shot Douglas in the face. Police recovered a pistol plus marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia at the scene.
Bullion was taken into custody, declined to answer investigators, requested a lawyer, and was arrested and lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center. An attempted murder charge was upgraded to murder after Douglas died; Bulllion also faces multiple drug-related charges. The Kentucky State Police continue to investigate.
