Ronald Morriss, 69, was shot and killed on the night of June 6, 2025, inside a home on the 6500 block of Camden Avenue in San Jose. Police were called about 10:40 p.m.; officers found an adult man with at least one gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The San José Police Department opened a homicide investigation and took a suspect into custody that same night while the victim’s identity and the motive were still being determined.

Early coverage reported the detained man as Dave Gold, described as a longtime South Bay soccer coach and former San Jose Earthquakes player; reports said he was arrested and later released as detectives continued to investigate. In September, detailed accounts published said Gold and Morriss were close friends of roughly five decades, that Morriss had been drinking heavily, and that an argument escalated when Morriss allegedly threatened Gold and moved toward him on interior stairs. Gold reportedly said he fired a small revolver during the confrontation and that prosecutors had cleared him of criminal liability after reviewing the circumstances.

Does anyone have direct information about Ronald Morriss, his time in the Almaden Valley home, or what happened that night?
