Jakeem Williams, 23, was shot and killed in the first hour of September 1, 2025, outside a business on the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 90 in the Avondale area on the West Bank near Westwego. Deputies were dispatched about 12:50 a.m.; when they arrived they found Williams on the ground, unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators encountered a man nearby who, deputies said, acknowledged involvement in the incident. Detectives later obtained an arrest warrant and Semaj Brown of New Orleans was taken into custody and booked on a second-degree murder charge. The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Jakeem Williams.
