John Bond, 77, a Navy veteran and longtime Linden, Michigan resident, was killed during a mass attack at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc on the morning of Sunday, September 28, 2025. He and his wife JoAnne had attended services when a 40-year-old man, identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, drove a pickup through the church’s brick wall, opened fire on the congregation of more than 100 worshippers and set the building on fire.

Bond was one of four congregants who died; eight others, aged 6 to 78, were treated for gunshot wounds or smoke inhalation. Reports say that after being shot Bond asked people to call his wife. The attacker died after a shootout with two responding law enforcement officers.

Bond is remembered by family as a devoted husband of more than 35 years, father of six and grandfather of ten who enjoyed golf and model trains and remained active in his community. If anyone attended that service or has information about John Bond that could help remember him, please share what is known.
