On the evening of September 22, 2025, Richard McBride, 61, was shot at about 8 p.m. at the corner of Richard and Donovan Streets in Moss Point’s Kreole community. He was taken to Singing River Hospital and pronounced dead around 8:15 p.m. McBride was a familiar local figure active in ministry and civic life and had run twice for mayor of Moss Point.
Police described the episode as an exchange of gunfire between McBride and another man, who was also wounded and hospitalized. Investigators initially withheld the other man’s name while they worked to establish the sequence of events and whether the shooting was self-defense or a homicide. No arrests had been announced in the days following the incident.
The shooting came the same day as a separate double homicide elsewhere in the city, bringing Moss Point’s total to three homicides that day. Funeral services for McBride were held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Does anyone in the community have information about the confrontation that evening or know the other person involved?
