Trena Peters, 53, was shot and killed on the front porch of a friend’s home in the Walnut Park West neighborhood of St. Louis on Tuesday afternoon, September 30, 2025. Peters had been living temporarily with that friend after a tornado damaged her house earlier in the year. She was preparing to leave for her job on the de-icing team at Lambert International Airport when multiple gunshots struck her in the chest, neck, and leg.

The friend ran out after hearing the shots, tried to render aid and perform CPR, and called emergency services. Peters was taken to a hospital but did not survive. Security camera footage reportedly shows a 19-year-old, identified as Shaun Hickman, walking onto the porch and shooting Peters, continuing to fire after she fell. The footage also allegedly shows Hickman shooting and killing a neighbor’s dog before leaving in an SUV.

Police arrested Shaun Hickman and charged him with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and animal abuse. No motive has been publicly released. A candlelight vigil was held by community members to remember Peters and call for an end to gun violence.
