Mark Hortman, 58, a White man from the Minneapolis area, was shot and killed in the early hours of June 14, 2025, when an assailant posing as law enforcement forced entry into his Brooklyn Park home. Investigators say the attacker used a realistic disguise and moved in a manner that suggested planning. The assault at the Hortman residence followed a separate shooting at the home of state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in nearby Champlin; authorities described the sequence as targeted and politically motivated and say additional attempted visits to other officials’ homes occurred that night.

Authorities identified and later arrested Vance Luther Boelter as the primary suspect; reporting describes writings and lists linked to the suspect that investigators said pointed toward political targets. Federal prosecutors indicted Boelter on counts tied to stalking and the murders of Melissa and Mark Hortman and the shootings of John and Yvette Hoffman, and he has pleaded not guilty in federal court. State prosecutors in Hennepin County also filed an indictment including first-degree premeditated murder counts and other charges.

Public reports have not identified any additional suspects charged in connection with the killings. Did anyone in the Brooklyn Park or Champlin area see suspicious persons or vehicles around both homes before dawn on June 14, 2025?
