On the night of Friday, May 9, 2025, 23-year-old Evan Robert Lynch was shot once in the chest and later died at a hospital. The shooting occurred at Doyle High School’s baseball field; a 9:15 p.m. call reporting a man shot in the chest led officers to a vehicle off Red Oak Road near Texas Street where Lynch was found.

Investigators detained the vehicle’s occupants; the driver was identified as 19-year-old Brandon Soileau. Within a day authorities arrested 23-year-old Caleb Rowley of Denham Springs. Both Soileau and Rowley were booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, obstruction of justice, and tampering with surveillance. On May 12, 2025, 24-year-old Lavorius Linson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, first-degree robbery, and illegally supplying a firearm to a felon. Police say the crime was not random and was believed to be planned.
