A welfare check by officers from the Northwoods Police Department on the afternoon of August 16, 2025, uncovered the death of 64-year-old Sheila Mills at her Begg Boulevard home in St. Louis County. Mills, an African-American woman, had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was found with her hands bound behind her back. The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is leading the homicide investigation.
Investigators focused on a recently ended relationship after learning Mills had sent a text the previous day to 61-year-old Darryl Greenlee terminating what police described as a turbulent relationship. Police say Greenlee arrived at Mills’ home in the early hours of August 16 accompanied by 57-year-old Kevin Shelton; Greenlee allegedly forced entry after calling to get her attention. Shelton is accused of leaving in Mills’ car, using her debit card to withdraw $140, then returning and honking twice. After Greenlee exited the house, he reportedly disposed of a trash bag that later yielded a tequila bottle containing his DNA. Mills’ phone was found discarded elsewhere.
Both Darryl Greenlee and Kevin Shelton were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and three counts of armed criminal action; each was held on a $2 million cash-only bond. Does anyone have information about Sheila Mills, her movements on August 15–16, or observations of either man in the Northwoods area?
