On the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2025, 46-year-old Jared Bodine was found unresponsive in the driveway of a home on Finney Road in Robertsville, Missouri. First responders determined he had been shot; he was taken to Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, where he died of his injuries. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation.

Investigators followed tips that led them well beyond Missouri, working in Morgan and Sedgwick counties in northeastern Colorado. That investigative work produced an indictment returned by a Franklin County grand jury on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Zachary J. Pankonin, 40, of Julesburg, Colorado, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action and was arrested and held without bond. Authorities credited Colorado law enforcement with vital assistance.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and have not publicly released a motive or explained the relationship between Bodine and Pankonin. If anyone knew Jared Bodine or has information about his movements or contacts in July 2025, please come forward.
