Darrell Sanders, 28, of Newark was fatally shot on a Saturday afternoon in Linden, New Jersey. The shooting happened around 3:26 p.m. on September 27 in the 3100 block of Irene Street. Linden police found Sanders at the scene with a single gunshot wound; he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, the Linden Police Department, and the Union County Sheriff’s Department investigated the killing together. Their work identified 23-year-old Linden resident Yamir Saffold-Davis as a suspect. On October 7 he was taken into custody in Elizabeth by the U.S. Marshals Service and charged with first-degree murder, plus second-degree counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and aggravated assault. He was being held in the Essex County Jail as the investigation continued.
